Ice Fishing On Lake Elmore

Northern Pike on Tip-up

Northern Pike on Tip-up

The extremely cold weather over the last 2 weeks in central and northern Vermont has formed safe clear ice on many of the lakes. Everyday more shanties are appearing on Vermont lakes as ice fishing fanatics scurry to prepare for the season in front of us.   We chose to fish on lake Elmore, which is a short distance from Stowe, VT that we frequent often with our guest. Over the years lake Elmore has produced good ice fishing for perch and northern pike.   Thursday was ideal weather for ice fishing with bluebird skies and hardly any wind we opted to leave our heated shanty to fish in the sun for the majority of the day. Lake Elmore had about a foot of clear ice with little snow on top, which made it ideal for setting up tip-ups. We had a slow start with not much action on the tip-ups but jigging was producing perch. At first we were hooking into a lot of small perch but after switching up jigs and color options we were able to hook into much larger perch. Then suddenly the tip up action heated up landing us 3 northern pike and a few more perch. Overall it was a great day on the ice and Vermont Trophy Guides is looking forward to a great season of ice fishing!
